Landscapes
I am so motivated by so many different natural and man-made environments. For example, the importance of an alley captivates me and then add light and shadows in that alley and I am drawn to record this ignored and forgotten environment. Some of the small towns I paint are as much about my interest in the culture and architecture of a place as they are a deep burning desire to record these unappreciated places in a way that entertains the viewer and perhaps excites their memories. It is my vision to document and record a brief piece of history of so many environments in which I have spent time in my life.
Seascapes & Nautical
As man-kind has always been drawn to sailing the seas, I as an artist am drawn to capture the moods and motions of the sea. The rhythmic motion of waves against a constant shore or hull of a ship has been the one constant throughout time. My seascapes & nautical scenes invoke the human senses to not just see the waves but stimulate the other senses. If I am successful as an artist it is because the viewer is drawn into the scene and the memory of salt air, squawking sea gulls and crashing waves come to life. The moods and motions of the sea can now fully entertain you.
Fishing Landscapes & Tackle
As an avid fly-fisherman that has been captivated by the sport for decades, I paint to translate the rhythmic beauty of fly-fishing and capture the intricate detail and vivid colors of many of its elements from fly patterns, the fish, and the environments where fly-fishing occurs. My art goal is to emulate the magical experience of fly-fishing.
Botany
As a former Landscape Architect I have always been drawn to plants, flowers and trees. This collection reflects some of the many plants I enjoy in my garden or where ever I find them.
Abstracts
My abstract paintings are an extension of my lifelong habit of daydreaming. I have always formed compositions in my head about the environments that surround us. In my abstracts, I am bringing some of these compositions and dreams to life. I paint them in watercolor because of the moods I can achieve and the fact that I find watercolor painting exhilarating.
