General Artist Statement

My art is a celebration of the essence found in our environments from the alluring subjects to the most mundane!

As a trained observer of places and the elements found within those places, through my years as a landscape architect and urban planner and now as an artist, I find myself attracted to natural landscapes, cityscapes and the vanishing landscapes and architecture of America's lost regions. I am especially attracted to a scene where light and shadow provide an abundance of drama.  

My role as a watercolor artist is to express the excitement and drama of the subject using a minimum of brush strokes, not always an easy task, and to provide the viewer an opportunity to interpretation. When done correctly, my art will zing your spirit while giving you an appreciation of the essence of our world.

Learning Opportunities

I teach several watercolor classes such as Introduction to Watercolor Equipment, Introduction to Watercolor Basics, Drawing and Perspective Sketching for the Artist, Painting in Watercolor, Watercolor Many Options, Plein Air Painting Tricks & Techniques, Impressionism versus Realism Painting, Elements of a Painting and Design Principles for Artist, Varnishing and Framing Watercolors and Mixing Color & Paint Consistency. I am available to teach at your location or mine. I teach at The Hub Station Arts Center in Hudson, NC and Mooresville Arts in Mooresville, NC. and anywhere a group wants me to come in and teach.
